Yoga—The Lower Township Recreation Department is offering ongoing drop-in adult yoga classes starting Tuesday, Sept. 8 from 7 to 8 p.m. Bring a blanket or yoga mat to class and wear loose fitting clothing. "What Were They Thinking: 160 Years of Bad Taste" Exhibit—As times change so do tastes. From hoop-skirted ladies and the tendency to ornament the ornaments so popular in the Victorian era, to the 1950s beehive hairdos and tailfins, to today's over-the-top bling and pocketbook dogs, this exhibit looks at how styles change as the times do. The Carriage House Gallery is at the Emlen Physick Estate, 1048 Washington St. Gallery is open daily; times vary. Cape May's fifth annual Designer Show House—The region's top designers and suppliers have transformed the Carpenter Cottage at 511 Franklin Street into Cape May's fifth annual Designer Show House. This mid-19th century Carpenter Gothic style home is open for daily self-guided tours and can be combined with breakfast, lunch and dinner packages and special events and is open daily, Sundays through Fridays, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., and Saturdays only 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. For more information, call 884-5404 or 800-275-4278 or visit www.capemaymac.org.

Chefs’ Dine-Arounds— Hop on board one of MAC’s trolleys for a unique and delicious way to get a taste of Cape May at 6 p.m.. Visit five of Cape May’s best restaurants all in one night for a five-course gourmet feast. Each course will be paired with an appropriate wine. A representative from the sponsoring winery will be on hand to explain the pairings. The wines on your dine-around will be available for purchase. Each night features a different combination of restaurants. Reserve early. This event is limited to 34 people per night. The Dine-Around on Sunday, Sept. 20 has already sold-out. Admission is $125 per person (gratuity included). A list of restaurants and menus will be available in August.
Food and Wine Classes—Master the art of cooking with herbs, learn from a culinary master during a class with Washington Inn’s Executive Chef Mimi Wood, discuss wines from Washington State with Mark Metzger from American BD wine distributors, and much more during the Food and Wine Classes. Learn a new epicurean skill at 9:45 a.m., 11a.m. and 2 p.m. Admission is $25 per person per session. Call for schedule and registration. Classes and sponsors are subject to change.
Dixieland Jazz—From 6 to 8 p.m. at VFW Post 386, 419 Congress St. in Cape May, the “Atlantic City Jazz Band,” featuring Herb Roselle on trombone, Franny Smith on banjo, Bob Rawlins on clarinet, Bob Ferguson on trumpet, Harry Solotti on tuba, Tom Angello on drums and Nancy Rawlins on keyboard, will be playing great Traditional Dixieland Jazz. Tickets are $10 advance purchase, call 884-7961, $10 CMTJS member price and $15 at door. Everyone is welcome. Gourmet Lunches—A far cry from the brown bag lunch—the Gourmet Lunches feature a selection of Cape May restaurants offering three-course gourmet lunches. Lunches are served in a different restaurant each day at 12:30 p.m. at restaurants including the Washington Inn, 801 Washington Street; Aleathea’s at the Inn of Cape May, 7 Ocean Street; and others. A complete list of restaurants and menus will be available in August. This event is limited to 40 people per restaurant. Admission is $25 per person.
Gourmet Brunch Walk—Walk through a portion of Cape May’s historic district on this guided walking tour ending at the famous Mad Batter restaurant. Get an up-close look at Cape May’s history and architecture followed by a gourmet brunch on the Gourmet Brunch Walk at 10 a.m. Admission is $20 for adults and $15 for children (ages 3 to 12). Reserve early; each tour is limited to 40 people.

Fisherman’s Wharf Tour—Learn how your seafood gets from the sea to your table and discover how Cape May has become the country’s fourth largest commercial fishing port with a guided tour of the Fisherman’s Wharf at the Lobster House. Admission is $10 for adults and $7 for children (ages 3 to 12). Tours are offered Saturdays at 11 a.m. and Tuesday and Thursday at 10 a.m.

Winery Cellar Tour and Tasting—Sip and swirl your way into the 13th annual Cape May Food and Wine Festival with Winery Cellar Tours and Tastings at the Cape May Winery at 711 Town Bank Rd. in North Cape May. Spend the afternoon touring the vineyard to see how the grapes are grown. Get an introduction to the winemaker’s art in the winery and enjoy a barrel tasting accompanied by cheese and fruit, and a sampling of five to six kinds of wine. Tours are offered daily at 3 p.m. Tours are limited to 40 people per tour. Admission is $20 per person and includes a complimentary souvenir tasting glass. Purchase tickets in advance at the Washington Street Mall Information Booth.

Cape May Wine Weekend—Triple your delight by combining a Wine Tasting Dinner, Winery Cellar Tour and Wine Tasting Class for a weekend of total indulgence. The weekend begins at 6 p.m. on Friday with a four-course dinner at the Washington Inn featuring wines themed to the Sunday Wine School Class. Guests will be treated to individual attention from the wine steward. On Saturday at 3 p.m., visit the award-winning Cape May Winery for a tour of the vineyard, an introduction to the winemaker’s art, and a barrel tasting with cheese and fruit. On Sunday at 1 p.m., learn the finer points of fine wines from Keith Bader of Lauber Imports as he shares his knowledge of the world of wine at the Cape May Wine School class “More in the bottle for your buck—Great wines that stretch your dollar,” at the Washington Inn. Learn to discern and appreciate affordable wines while increasing your knowledge of pairings. The complete package is $135 per person. The Cape May Wine School class can be purchased separately for $30 per person.

Beachfront Run—The 26th annual Cape May Beachfront Run will host two separate runs, at 8:30 a.m. will be the two-mile run and at 9:15 a.m. will be the five-mile run. The event begins at the Cape May Convention Hall. Both courses are certified. Applications can be downloaded on www.capemaycity.org under “Permits and Applications,” or call Cape May Civic Affairs 884-9565 or stop at Cape May Convention Hall for an application.
Christmas Parade Fundraiser—The West Cape May community Christmas Parade fundraiser is held in Wilbraham Park, to benefit the annual parade. The event features plenty of hometown treats, entertainment and good company. A high light of the day comes when the new Christmas Parade Queen and her Court are crowned from among our local schoolchildren. The rain date is Sept. 27. Roast Turkey Dinner—Cape May United Methodist Men are holding a Roast Turkey Dinner featuring a salad bar and dessert table from 4:30 to 7 p.m. at Lyle Hall, 635 Washington Street in Cape May. The cost is $10 for adults and $5 for children.

Cape May Wine Trail—New in 2009. Spend the day visiting Cape May County’s wineries and sampling the unique flavors of each. First enjoy lunch at the Carriage House Tearoom and Café at the Physick Estate and board the trolley, which will take you to Natali Vineyards, Turdo Vineyards and Cape May Winery where you’ll learn about viniculture and visit the tasting rooms from noon to 5 p.m. Admission is $75 per person and includes lunch, wine tastings at each vineyard and a wine tasting glass. Ocktoberfest—Jackson Street, Cape May. DJ Ed McDonough will play the tunes while on the other end of Jackson Street live jazz will be performed. Food vendors will consist of German sausages, pulled pork, crab cakes, funnel cakes, mini-donuts, Amish baked goods, Italian ices, fruit cups and more. There will be a beer tent around the Mad Batter. About 90 vendors including antique dealers, estate jewelry, handmade children's clothing, toys, face painter, handmade jewelry, Italian pottery, sandals and handbags. Golf Tournament—The 14th annul David C. Douglass Sr. Golf Tournament will be held once again at the Cape May National Golf Course. There will be 8 a.m. registration and a 9 a.m. shotgun start. Lots of prizes and trophies will be awarded. Feb. 18 marks the 15th anniversary of the death of Lower Township Police Officer David C. Douglass Sr., who was shot and killed in the line of duty. Vintage Dance Weekend—Kick up your heels as they did in Cape May during its Victorian heyday. Instructors will teach you the traditional dances of the 19th century at a Vintage Dance Workshop at the Franklin Street School Gym, Franklin and Lafayette streets, Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Then, put your newfound expertise to good use at a costumed Vintage Ball at Cape May Elementary School, 921 Lafayette St., with live music of the period at 8 p.m. Saturday night. A Tea Dance at the Corinthian Yacht Club, 1819 Delaware Ave., also with live music, is Sunday, Oct. 11 at 2 p.m. Victorian dress encouraged but not required. Refreshments are included at the Ball and Tea Dance. An all-inclusive package is available or you can purchase events individually. Organ Recital/Benefit—Gordon Turk, renowned organist of Ocean Grove, and the organist and choir-director of St. Mary’s Episcopal Church Wayne, Pa., will be in recital at 4 p.m. in the Episcopal Church of the Advent, Franklin and Washington streets in Cape May. Admission is $10. Proceeds benefit the Organ Recital Fund. A reception will follow in the Parish Hall, 612 Franklin Street (behind the church). The Advent organ is Opus 4 of Russell Meyer and Associates and is a three manual instrument with 1668 pipes and 27 ranks. Turk’s program will feature music that would have been played during the Victorian era, in honor of MAC’s Victorian Week.

Room with a View—Cape May Film Society Presents “Room with a View” at 7 p.m. at the Episcopal Church of the Advent, Washington and Franklin streets. Winner of three Academy Awards, "A Room with a View" is a comedy of the heart, a passionate romance and a study of repression within the British class system of manners and mores. It's that system of rigid behavior that prevents young Lucy Honeychurch (Helena Bonham Carter) from accepting the loving advances of a free-spirited suitor (Julian Sands), who fears that she will follow through with her engagement to an unromantic, priggish intellectual (Daniel Day-Lewis).
