Hydrant testing

The Ventnor Water and Sewer Utility will conduct flow testing on the city’s fire hydrants between Monday, Oct. 26 and Friday, Oct. 30. Testing will begin at Jackson Avenue and proceed south to Fredericksburg Avenue followed by Ventnor West and finishing in Ventnor Heights. Residents are advised not to be alarmed if discoloration of tap water is noticed, as it is not harmful and will dissipate in several hours. However, residents may want to avoid washing clothes, especially white loads, during the testing period or while the water is discolored.



Halloween parade rescheduled

The Ventnor Heights Mothers Club Halloween parade has been rescheduled to Saturday, Oct. 31, beginning with lineup at 12:30 p.m. at Ski Beach on Burke and Dorset avenues. Participants will march to Titus Field at 1 p.m. Prizes will be awarded to best in the following categories: toddler, scary, comic, fancy, band, patriotic, original, floats. If it rains the parade will be held in the Ventnor Educational Community Complex gymnasium.



Hebrew reading course for beginners

Chabad at the Shore is offering a four-week Hebrew reading crash course. The series begins 11 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 1 and will be held on Sundays at Chabad Ventnor Shul, 6412 Ventnor Ave. Reservations required; call Ron Mangel at (609) 992-4975.



Holy Family holiday bazaar

Holy Family will hold its second annual holiday bazaar 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 1 in St. James Memorial Hall, 9 S. Newport Ave. Call (609) 822-2234.



Viking Rowing Club 50th anniversary party

Viking Rowing Club will celebrate the 50th anniversary of Doc Holland’s Boat House Dream 6 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 11 at the Chelsea Hotel in Atlantic City. Cocktails, hors d’oeuvres and a silent auction will be followed by buffet dinner, dancing and a short program confirming Doc Holland’s mission “to get an oar into the hands of anyone who wants try.” The public is invited to join alumni, past and present members and student rowers. Ronald Shapiro to speak at Beth Judah

Free showing of ‘A Christmas Carol’

The Atlantic County Healthy Living Coalition is celebrating its fifth birthday with a free private screening of Disney’s “A Christmas Carol” starring Jim Carrey 9 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 18 at the IMAX Theatre at the Quarter at Tropicana Casino. Check-in is at 8:45 a.m. Popcorn and drink will be provided. Must attend the entire event to receive the free movie; activities include a showcase of the coalition’s highlights, coalition awards and colorectal cancer education. Holiday parade

The Ventnor holiday parade is set for noon Saturday, Dec. 12. Lineup begins 11:30 at the corner of Cornwall and Ventnor avenues. The parade will end at the firehouse on New Haven Avenue where Santa Claus will greet children. Local businesses, civic groups and anyone who would like to join may sign up by calling (609) 823-7900.
