Police warn of Bank of America email scam

Nov, 03-2009 12:28 pm

EGG HARBOR TOWNSHIP – The Egg Harbor Township Police Department is warning residents of a new Internet fraud scam that arrives as an email that appears to originate from Bank of America.

The email states that the bank is seeking information to correct a security problem, such as unauthorized credit card use, with the email receiver’s account. The email requests personal and legitimate account information.

The email appears to be official and may even have the Bank of America logo attached to it.

The Egg Harbor Township Police Department is advising the public not to respond to this email. Police warn that providing the requested information will put your identity and bank accounts at risk for fraud.

If there are any doubts about your accounts or the validity of email notices, speak with a bank representative in person or by phone using the legitimate customer service numbers that are located or your statement or on the rear of your credit card.
