Dispose of old medication through Operation Medicine Cabinet

Nov, 04-2009 11:48 am

PORT REPUBLIC – The city will participate in a statewide program called Operation Medicine Cabinet.

“Through Operation Medicine Cabinet, it is a perfect opportunity to get potent drugs out of the medicine cabinet and discarded in a safe and proper way,” Atlantic County Sheriff Frank Balles said. “It is a fact that 10 percent of teens say they have taken prescription drugs from friends and relatives without asking.”

Sheriff’s officers will be stationed at the Port Republic General Store at 205 Clarks Landing Road where they will collect any unused, unwanted, old or expired medications between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 14.

New Jersey is hosting the first statewide Medicine Disposal Day in the Nation.

For information visit www.operationmedicinecabinetnj.com or call Undersheriff Ted Kammer at (609) 909-7216.

Sheriff’s officers will also man a post at the Oaks and Weymouth Senior Development on Eleventh Avenue, three quarters of a mile off Route 50 in Weymouth Township during the same time period.
