LONGPORT – Voters here followed the Republican trend that swept through much of Atlantic County with this off-year election in which the borough had no municipal races.
In the race for governor, local voters made Chris Christie their top pick over incumbent Jon Corzine by a vote of 256 to 121. Independent candidate Chris Daggett got 11 votes.
In the race to represent District 2 in the New Jersey Assembly, Republicans John Amodeo of Margate and Vince Polistina of Egg Harbor Township collected 283 and 275 votes, respectively, over Democratic contenders Reggie Floyd and Jimmy Martinez, both of Northfield, who netted 84 and 85, respectively.
In the freeholder race, Republican Frank Formica of Margate outpaced contender John Devlin, also of Atlantic City, by 173 votes, getting 269 to Devlin’s 96. Formica will replace longtime Assemblyman Tom Russo on the Atlantic County Board of Chosen Freeholders.
For freeholder at large, former Democrat-turned-Republican Frank Giordano claimed victory in front of a room of supporters at the Linwood Country Club Tuesday evening. Locally, Giordano took the contest over Democratic challenger Angelo DeMaio 256 to 106.
Voters here rejected the public question authorizing money for open space acquisition 171-148.
All vote tabulations are preliminary and do not include mail-in, provisional and absentee ballots.
