DePolis adds equipment for treatment of spinal disorders

Dr. Christopher De Polis Jr. has added state-of-the-art medical equipment for the treatment of spinal decompression to his South Jersey Spinal Care Center at Cornerstone Commerce Center in Linwood.

According to a news release, the FDA-approved machine has been effective in the treatment of bulging and herniated disks and degenerative disk disease, including successful treatment after failed back surgery.

Unlike surgery, in which a doctor must cut out a bulging or herniated disk, the machine gently pulls on the lumbar spine to open up the disk space, allowing the bulging material to retract naturally, without the need for surgery.



Bloch receives Patients’ Choice Award

Dr. Andrea Bloch, a psychiatrist with a practice at Cornerstone, has been selected to receive an American Registry Patients’ Choice Award for excellence in the practice of psychiatry.

Physicians are chosen for the award from more than 400,000 patient ratings compiled each year by the American Registry affiliate VitalsSM, a health information exchange on more than 700,000 practicing physicians across the United States. Fewer than 5 percent of all physicians nationwide are honored with the award each year.

Bloch is working on plans to expand her practice in 2010 with the introduction of a transcranial magnetic stimulation machine, a new FDA-approved therapy for the treatment of depression.

The treatment, which utilizes magnetic pulses, has minimum cognitive side effects and has proven to be particularly effective in cases where other medications and treatments have failed, according to the press release.

In addition to her private practice, Bloch conducts evaluations for school child study teams in the area and is a consultant in the Department of Developmental Disabilities for the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey.
