EGG HARBOR TOWNSHIP – No one was hurt and a local suspect is in custody after three women from Linwood were the victims of a carjacking Thursday, Nov. 5 at the CVS on Tilton Road.
Police said the 58-year-old driver parked a Ford Flex at around 10:53 p.m. and entered the store, leaving the other females, ages 86 and 16, in the car.
A subject approached the vehicle and banged on the windows, demanding the females exit the car. When they complied, the suspect got into the vehicle and drove off, heading west on Tilton Road. No weapons were seen.
Officer Patrick Daly and numerous fellow officers responded, but there was no sign of either the silver and white vehicle or the suspect.
The vehicle and the suspect were eventually located by troopers from the New Jersey State Police Belmar Barracks late Friday, Nov. 6 after both were allegedly involved in two strong-arm robberies in Mantua Township.
Christopher Payne, 32, of Egg Harbor Township was charged with carjacking in the Egg Harbor Township incident. Superior Court Judge James Isman set bail at $800,000 cash and he was lodged in the Atlantic County Justice Facility.
