Operation Medicine Cabinet a big success

PORT REPUBLIC – Approximately 37 pounds of old, expired and unused drugs were collected Saturday, Nov. 14 at the Port Republic General Store as part of Operation Medicine Cabinet, conducted by the Atlantic County Sheriff’s Office and the New Jersey Drug Enforcement Agency.
“People were really happy to have a place to get rid of drugs that have been in their medicine cabinets probably for years,” said Undersheriff Ted Kammer.
All of the drugs are handed over to the DEA in a sealed box to be incinerated along with other drugs picked up from several hundred locations statewide.
“This was a real win-win for our residents because they were able to dispose of drugs they did not know what to do with, and we got rid of drugs that could have potentially fallen into the wrong hands,” said Kammer.
