Free Child Safety Seat Checks At Burke Chevrolet
Nov, 19-2009 11:40 am
CAPE MAY COURT HOUSE—Just in time for your holiday travel, the Cape May County Sheriff’s Office will check the installation of your child car sat Saturday, Nov. 21 from 9 a.m. to noon, at Burke Chevrolet, Stone Harbor Boulevard in Cape May Court House.
Nationally certified technicians will be on hand to verify that children are properly buckled into an age appropriate child safety seat and that the seat is properly secured in the vehicle. Studies show that 80 percent of all child safety seats are not properly secured and may not protect a child as intended in a crash.
“Motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death for children 3 to 8 years old, that is why I support this monthly event and my officers participate,” Cape May County Sheriff Gary Schaffer said.
Individual inspections take 20 to 30 minutes per seat so parents should give themselves enough time. The technician will point out any deficiencies in the current installation, check the seat for recalls and then help the parent re-install the seat correctly.
The Cape May County Monthly Child Car Seat Check is open to the public and anyone with children traveling in car seats is encouraged to attend. The monthly event is made possible by a partnership with Burke Chevrolet, SAFE KIDS of Atlantic and Cape May counties, Middle Township Police and the South Jersey Traffic Safety Alliance. For more information call the Sheriff’s Office at 463-6425.
