Canaday, William (Bill), - has left this life after a 6 month struggle with pancreatic cancer. Born on May 18, 1944, eldest son of Madeline Gribbin (McCarthy) and Jack Canaday. Bill attended grade school at Immaculate Conception in Germantown and Cardinal Dougherty High School in the Olney section of northeast Philadelphia where he excelled at playing football and was offered a scholarship to play at Temple University, opting instead to enlist in the USAF upon graduation in 1962. There he received his mechanical training and became an armament and electronic maintenance technician with the 380th Strategic Air Command working with the B-47 bomber squadron in Plattsburgh, NY. Bill received his honorable discharge as an A-1C, Airman 1st Class. In the years following his military service, Bill worked as an electronics technician for Pacemaker Yacht company in Egg Harbor and then Teleprompter Cable Television in the Downbeach area, eventually starting his distinguished 30 year career with the USPS where he worked at the Bellmawr facility as a systems technician until retiring in 2001. Billy enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing tennis and golf, he was an avid reader and student of life. He had many interests and anything he found of interest he would often pursue to the point of expertise. In the years of his retirement Billy enjoyed his time at the Atlantic City casinos, with the companionship of friends and benefits of a casino "player". He always had time for his family, attending softball games, taking a train trip or fishing with his nieces and nephews. Billy will be dearly missed by his friends and family members, who shall always remember enjoying their time spent with him. Predeceased by his brother Johnny, mother Madeline, Stepfather Pat, and of course Aunt Lil and survived by his sister Dee (Bill Strang) and brother Patrick (Sunny) along with many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
