OCEAN CITY — For the 13th year, the Ocean City School District is sending valentines to American soldiers with Lite Rock 96.9 radio’s Valentines for the Troops program.

Lite Rock teams up with American Recreation Military Services to send valentines to troops anywhere around the world where New Jersey military personnel are deployed.

Classes and organizations throughout the Ocean City School District have been making tons of valentines. As of Friday, he district had 2,086 cards.

In past years, some of the valentines ended up with several OCHS alumni stationed in Afghanistan.

“Each year the participation gets better," school district Superintendent Kathleen Taylor said in a press release.

"Our students rally together to provide a caring message along with a small slice of home to those fighting overseas. It is important for our district as a whole to remind our military that they are appreciated each day and that we wish them a safe return home,” she said.

In addition to cards, the district also has boxes filled with donations of candy, snack foods and more to send to the troops.
