PLEASANTVILLE – Nolan Allen was sworn in Sept. 7 to City Council to fill the seat of 1st ward City Councilman Lincoln Green, who died Aug. 25 after a long illness.

Allen, 26, of Pleasantville filled the unexpired three-year-term that began in January. Allen moved here six years ago from Philadelphia.

He served on the Zoning Board from 2011-16.

In 2012, he was elected as a County Committeeman and serves as an active member of the Atlantic County Democratic Committee. He served as both the vice president and president of the Pleasantville Democratic Club and continues to be an active member. He is the treasurer of the Young Democrats of Atlantic County.

Allen, a social worker, said his interest in politics began when he was young, working on campaigns from the local to national level.

Having a career as a social worker allows him to fight for social justice and allows those in the community to gain access to resources they may not have the opportunity to obtain otherwise, he said.

“The reason why I wanted to be on council is because my life has been about public service and giving back,” Allen said. “I feel that I can give some fresh ideas and new blood to Pleasantville and feel like I can continue to keep Pleasantville on the move.”

Mayor Jesse Tweedle Sr. said the decision to appoint Allen was an easy one.

“Once he gets involved in any type of commitment he is fully engaged,” Tweedle said. “He has a mind of his own and a thirst to learn and really excel and make people proud. I tell him just be Nolan and don’t be influenced by a lot of different things. Just keep doing what you’re doing because you have an ability to learn. I told him he is very in tune with what needs to be done and that is why he is a perfect fit. He will be someone who will represent the City of Pleasantville very well.”

Allen is the founder of the Community Baseball Association of Atlantic County, a non-profit organization that provides youth with mentoring and recreational baseball.

He said he is a challenge-driven leader in the community and inspires individuals to work toward achieving a common goal.

Allen enjoys sports, spending time with his fiancée, Lucy, and their two dogs.
