ABSECON – A tradition more than 40 years in the making returns in November with the arrival of the annual Christmas Bazaar at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church.
The bazaar will be held Friday and Saturday, Nov. 11 and 12 at the church, 591 New Jersey Ave. Hours are 11 a.m.-7 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m.-7 p.m. Saturday.
Event Chairwoman Vicky Lutz began running the show about 10 years ago.
“It was a church-inspired bazaar,” she said. “It was mostly a parish event in the beginning. In recent years we’ve expanded it to become a craft show.”
Thirty-three crafters have signed up for the show, with more expected to come in the next few weeks, Lutz said.
The church will also be selling crafts and will have a baked goods table. And once again, Rev. Perry Cherubini, church pastor, will be making his chicken tortellini soup.
“We also have a white elephant room of gently used items for sale,” Lutz said.
The raffle room contains strictly new items and donated used ones, she said.
“The big raffle is a little girl’s bedroom set,” Lutz said. "The 'Ladybug Bedroom' raffle includes a twin bed, desk with a bookcase top and chair and more."
Two dining room tables are also being raffled off. One is for Thanksgiving and the other for Christmas.
“We have two casual country-style dining tables,” she said. “One set combines stained and painted wood. It has four chairs and a bench. It will be part of our Happy Thanksgiving raffle.
“The other dining set is solid maple and will be part of our Merry Christmas raffle,” Lutz said. “Each raffle contains China, flatware, holiday accent pieces and gift certificates.”
“There will be lots of Christmas trees,” she said. “It’s really fun and very festive.”
The church is sponsoring a big spaghetti dinner on Saturday with all the fixings: salad, meatballs, desert and beverages.
“You get a lot for your money,” Lutz said.
Santa Claus appears on Friday and returns with Mrs. Claus on Saturday, Lutz said.
The other members of the bazaar committee are Ursula Potkay, Eva Shultz, Fran Madge, Barbara Doughty, Elizabeth Lynch, Carolyn Johnson, Florence Waniak, MaryJane Dye, Carol Lott, MaryLou Ward, Delores Boucher and Terrie DaGrossa.
