EGG HARBOR TOWNSHIP — The Community FoodBank of New Jersey, Southern Branch, raised more than $35,000 in its recent Feed A Family dine-out campaign, supported by more than 50 area restaurants, food bank Vice President Richard Uniacke announced.
“We are so grateful to our restaurant partners and the diners who added $5 or more to their bills during Feed A Family. The contributions by these hunger heroes will allow us to feed over 105,000 meals to families in Atlantic, Cape May and Cumberland counties," he said.

Restaurants that participated agreed to promote the event to their patrons and collect the funds for the food bank for one week in early August. Dock’s Oyster House, Knife & Fork Inn and Harry’s Oyster Bar in Atlantic City, all owned by Maureen Shay-Doughtery, agreed to extend their campaign for another week. Patrice Popvic of Smitty’s Clam Bar in Somers Point offered incentives to their wait staff to promote the activity, and others rounded up the amounts collected at their restaurants or made additional donations. Tomatoe’s of Margate raised $2,200, and owner Karen Sherman added an additional $2,200 to their donation.
“Now, in October, we are marking the beginning of our Holiday Meals campaign and are working to continue raising awareness about the tremendous need to combat hunger in our area. In our most recent fiscal year ending June 30, the food bank distributed more than 10 million pounds of food, a record for the organization and an 18 percent increase over the previous year,” Uniacke said.
