Celtic fest at Cold Spring

Celtic fest at Cold Spring Celtic fest at Cold Spring

Enjoy all things Irish, Scottish and Celtic at Historic Cold Spring Village’s eighth annual Celtic Festival, to be held the weekend of June 9 and 10 from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The festival includes music throughout the grounds, interactive demonstrations and a pub area with all-day live music.  The opening ceremony will be held at noon on Saturday, led by Nae Breeks Pipes & Drums Band which is comprised of members of the Atlantic City Sandpipers.

“Celtic Fest has grown to be one of our most popular and anticipated events,” says HCSV executive director Anne Salvatore.  “The festival offers a mix of music, dancing and other traditional demonstrations that fit in perfectly with the Village, a 19th century open-air living history museum, as the backdrop.”

The Village’s restored, historic buildings will also be open, with historical interpreters demonstrating the trades and crafts and the 1800s.  This program is sponsored by Fitzpatrick, Bongiovanni & Kelly Certified Public Accountants.

Performances include sets by Nae Breeks Pipes & Drums Band, The Towheads featuring Junior Eastern Region Irish Fiddle Champion Hayley Richardson, readings from the Book of Kells, traditional instruments, the NJ Blacksmith Association and Club Spain, an Andalusian dance troupe representing the Celtic regions of Spain.

The Welcome Center, Country Store, Ice Cream Parlor and Bakery will also be open, as will the Old Grange Restaurant.

Weekend special events will run until mid-September.  Fun and educational activities for children are featured Tuesday through Sunday from June 19 to Labor Day. Historic Cold Spring Village is a non-profit early American open-air living history museum located at 720 Route 9. Admission during the season is $10 for adults and $8 for children ages 3-12.  Children under 3 are admitted free.  For more information on employment, events, membership or volunteering, call 898-2300, ext. 10 or see www.hcsv.org.
