‘Little Women’ to be staged by MTHS cast

MIDDLE TOWNSHIP — Legend has it that when she was young, Louisa May Alcott visited Cape May with her parents from the Germantown section of Philadelphia where they lived. There even is a hotel named after her in Cape May.

Historians have countered, however, that she never was in Cape May. She was in Cape Cod after the family moved to Massachusetts when she was 6 years old, but never in Cape May.

Whatever the case, Alcott will be very much present in the minds of many locals when a cast of students at Middle Township High School present the Broadway musical version of her novel, “Little Women” at the Performing Arts Center of Middle Township on Friday night March 1, at 7:30 and on Saturday, March 2, at 2 and 7 p.m.

“‘Little Women’ is one of my favorite shows and I am extremely happy to do it with this cast of talented students,” said director Debbie Jenkins Dalfonso, a music teacher at the high school and a professional actress when she is not teaching. “This musical showcases our female students in strong women’s roles and they are all meeting the challenge as we go through the rehearsal stage. The show has wonderful themes from the book of love, patience, charity and kindness, all of which seem like a good idea in today’s’ world.”

Appearing in leading roles are Katie Rusko as Jo March; Alyssa Sullivan as Marmee; Shosannah Kleinman as Meg March; Ashley Badders as Beth March; Angelica Sadayan as Amy March; Brinley Edwards as Aunt March;  Conner Wynn as Laurie Laurence; Zachery Peterson as Professor Bhaer; Colin Millo as John Brooke and Kevin O’Donnell as Mr. Laurence.

Tickets purchased before Feb. 28 are $10 for adults, $9 for seniors and $8 for students. After that date they are priced at $12, $11 and $10. Call 609-463-1924.
