MARGATE – A hint o’ the green will be making its way along the shore next week as the 35th annual St. Patrick’s Day Run kicks off Saturday, March 16 in Margate.
The 10-mile and 5K run, which benefits the Donny Fund and South Jersey Field of Dreams, will begin and end at the Martin Bloom Pavilion, 101 S. Huntington Ave. in Margate. Registration will begin at 7:30 a.m. the day of the event and prior by calling John Glassey at (609) 641-8666.
Glassey said people may remember the race beginning at the former Margate landmark watering hole, Maloney’s, and over the years the event has benefited various charities including the American Cancer Society.
The course begins and ends at the Margate Library and travels to the Ventnor Boardwalk via Atlantic Avenue. Runners in the 10-mile race will take the boardwalk into Atlantic City and turn around at the Showboat Atlantic City Casino and Hotel while the 5k turnaround is in Ventnor.
Glassey said last year 734 runners took part in the event, many of them in costume or in kilts. This year, there will be radio stations playing music along the course in addition to a live bluegrass band and a DJ.
Long-sleeve T-shirts are available with pre-registration.
The registration fee is $25 for regular participants and $20 for students before March 10 and $30 and $25 after.
