Choose kilts or shorts for St. Patrick’s Day Run March 16
A hint o’ green will be making its way along the shore next week as the 35th annual St. Patrick’s Day Run kicks off Saturday, March 16 in Margate.
The 10-mile and 5K run, which benefits the Donny Fund and South Jersey Field of Dreams, will begin and end at the Martin Bloom Pavilion, 101 S. Huntington Ave.
Glassey said people may remember the race beginning at Maloney’s, the former landmark watering hole. Over the years the event has benefited various charities including the American Cancer Society.
The course begins and ends at the Margate Library and travels to the Ventnor boardwalk via Atlantic Avenue. Runners in the 10-mile race will take the boardwalk into Atlantic City and turn around at the Showboat Atlantic City Casino and Hotel, while the 5k turnaround is in Ventnor.
Last year 734 runners took part in the event, many of them in costume or in kilts, Glassey said.
Radio stations will play music along the course, and there will be a live bluegrass band and a DJ.
Long-sleeved T-shirts are available with preregistration.
The registration fee is $25 for regular participants and $20 for students before March 10 and $30 and $25 after. Register in advance by calling John Glassey at (609) 641-8666 or 7:30 a.m. the day of the event at the Bloom Pavilion.
