MIDDLE TOWNSHIP – Sand and gravel pits and recycling operations are on the sale block, including properties in Middle Township.

“This is a business decision on our end,” said office manager Victoria Heun. She indicated that the owners wish to retire. It’s also part of scaling back, she said.

Future Mining of Middle Township is a subsidiary of Albrecht & Heun. Albrecht & Heun, a contractor that has done work throughout Cape May County, will remain in place, she said.

The company has centered on mining beach, concrete and other grades of sand. The sand and gravel reserves have a market sale of about $74 million, according to information from Equity Partners CRB LLC of Maryland.

The family-owned business has served schools, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, state Department of Environmental Protection and other state agencies, large construction companies, among others.

“We have a long history with a lot of the towns,” Heun said.

The company is looking to sell two operating sand-mining and recycling operations and three land tracts.

“One of these tracts has the preliminary approval for mining and Class B Recycling Permit,” according to information from the company.

Equity Partners says the lands could be used for wetlands mitigation, lakefront housing development, single-family homes, golf-course use and other recreational opportunities.

Also, the recycling operations could be expanded to include rubber-tire and asphalt-based roofing scrap, among other uses.

Equipment would also be included in the sale, according to Equity Partners’ website.

According to information, the owner would be open to selling businesses and land tracts together or individually.
