Circus in Rio Grande

RIO GRANDE - Cole Bros. Circus of the Stars will be in Rio Grande on Monday, Aug. 4 and Tuesday, Aug. 5, at the Robert "Ockie" Wisting Recreation Complex on Route 47 next to the Menz Restaurant, hosted by Rio Grande Volunteer Fire Department.

Advance tickets are $16, and can be purchased at Secluded Acres Farm and Garden (609-886-8574), or at the Rio Grande Fire Department (609-886-1422).

Lions plan pancake breakfast to benefit blind and needy

AVALON - The Avalon Lions Charities Foundation will hold its annual pancake breakfast on Saturday, June 14 at the Avalon Community Hall at 30th and Avalon Ave from 8 to 11 a.m.

The cost is $8 for adults and $6 for children. In addition to the pancakes, the Lions will serve sausage and bacon, coffee, tea, milk and juice.

Proceeds aid the blind and needy and benefit county charities.

On Saturday, May 17, from 10 a.m. to noon, authors will receive tips and feedback on poetry, memoirs, short stories, articles, and books. They can also record an audio version to share a story. To register, call 609-967-7155, or visit the circulation desk.

Folks who are baffled by computers, or want to share their knowledge of CPUs can attend the PC Users Group meeting on Monday, May 19 from 6:15 to 7:45 p.m. Take the opportunity to meet with other personal computer users to share problems and solutions. The topic for the evening is: Ten Good Computer Habits.

Senior center slates spaghetti dinner

CAPE MAY COURT HOUSE – A fund-raising spaghetti dinner is planned at the Middle Township Senior Center from 4-7 p.m. on Friday, May 30 at the center on 23 Romney Place in Cape May Court House.

Dinner includes spaghetti with meat sauce, a Caesar salad, bread, beverage and dessert.

Cost is $8 per person, and meals are eat-in or packaged for take-home.

There will also be music, door prizes and a 50/50 silent auction.

Stone Harbor to reenact century-old meeting

STONE HARBOR - As part of its Centennial Celebration, Borough Council will re-enact its first meeting held 100 years ago, which included a regulation against spitting at council meetings.

The re-enactment will be held at 5 p.m. on Friday, May 16, at the Yacht Club of Stone Harbor.

Remembrance Day Antique Show and Gala planned for Memorial Day Weekend

AVALON - Cape Regional Medical Center Auxiliary will host the Remembrance Day Annual Antique Show and Sale to benefit the hospital’s Brodesser Cancer Center on Friday and Saturday, May 23-24 at the Avalon Community Center at 30th Street and the beach in Avalon.

The show is free and is open from noon-4 p.m. on May 23, and from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on May 24.

Cape May County Library hosts beginner crochet classes

WOODBINE - The public is invited to “Crochet an Independence Day Placemat,” a four-week workshop that begins Saturday, Jun 7 at 10 a.m. in the Woodbine branch of the Cape May County Library at 800 Monroe St.

Jennifer Bolton, who learned to crochet from her grandmother, and hopes to pass the craft on to her daughters, is scheduled to present the program.

Stone Harbor plans reenactment of historic meeting

Stone Harbor Council plans to reenact the borough's first council meeting at a special session at 4p.m. on Friday, May 16 at the Stone Harbor Yacht Club at 9001 Sunset Drive.

The special meeting is part of the borough's centennial event calendar.
