Be concerned over loss of Environmental Commission

To the editor:

Dennis Township should be in mourning. Last Tuesday evening, at the meeting of the Dennis Township Committee, an ordinance to abolish the Dennis Township Environmental Commission was introduced and voted to adopt by three members of the five-member committee.

The Dennis Township Environmental Commission has been in existence for more than 20 years. The decision to suddenly abolish it came out of the blue and shocked the volunteer members of the commission as they had previously received praise for their work from both the former and present mayors of Dennis Township.

The reasoning behind this action by the Dennis Township Committee is puzzling but may become apparent as we watch and see what changes take place in Dennis Township without the overview of the Environmental Commission.

We, who live in Dennis Township and are concerned about our environment, now need to be more vigilant and if we don’t like what we see happening, voice our concerns to the Township Committee and also let our voices be heard in the voting booth.
