Celebrate MTHS achievements

To the editor:

I am responding to the May 3, 2012 article in the Gazette "20 percent of MTHS seniors didn't make the grade".

To compare the graduation rates of Middle Township High School and the Cape May County Technical High School, as this article did, is not comparing apples to apples in my opinion. Middle Township High School does not utilize a selection process focusing on entrance exam scores, behavior, and attendance records for admittance. If the Gazette is going to compare the two schools, positives as well as areas in need of improvement, for both schools, could be included in the comparison.

For example, the Middle Township School District is one of fewer than 400 public school districts in the nation to be honored by the College Board with a place on the second annual AP Honor Roll, for simultaneously increasing access to Advanced Placement coursework while maintaining or increasing the percentage of students earning scores of 3 or higher on AP exams. Most United States colleges and universities grant college credit for an AP exam score of 3 or above.

This achievement proves that Middle Township students "do make the grade".
