RIO GRANDE – A Wednesday morning crash in Rio Grande that sent three people to the hospital stemmed from a domestic violence incident, police say.

On Feb. 16, police charged Jean Kascinski with two counts of aggravated assault in the second degree, two counts of assault by auto, reckless driving, failure to maintain lane, and uninsured motor vehicle. Police accuse her of deliberately colliding with another vehicle.

The crash occurred along Wildwood Boulevard at 6:24 a.m. Feb. 15.

According to Middle Township Police, the two cars were both traveling toward Wildwood when they collided near the middle of the roadway, which runs between Wildwood and Rio Grande in Middle Township.

The force of the crash caused the one car, a Pontiac Bonneville to leave the road, where it stuck a utility pole and flipped over onto the roof.  The other vehicle, a Dodge Caravan, went off the road into the marsh, police said.

Police said the driver of the Pontiac, Mary Houston, 62, of Green Creek and her passenger Paul Alexander, 37, of Rio Grande, were airlifted to Atlantic Regional Medical Center in Atlantic City. As of Wednesday afternoon they were listed in stable condition.

Police describe Alexander as Kascinski’s boyfriend.

Kascinski, 36, of Green Creek, was taken to Cape Regional Medical Center for minor injuries. She was driving the other vehicle.

Kascinski was placed in Cape May County jail on $50,000 bail.

Wildwood Boulevard, east bound, was shut down for approximately five and a half hours for the investigation and replacement of the utility pole.

The Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office assisted in the investigation.
