MIDDLE TOWNSHIP – Student-athletes at Middle Township High School are collecting non-perishable food through October as part of a community service program.

“Orange and Black Athletes Give Back is a community-service give-back program to show the community that the athletes at Middle Township High School care about community issues and want to help,” reads information about the program. “We want to address hunger.”

Non-perishable food is being accepted in boxes outside the high school cafeteria until Oct. 31. The items will be distributed to food banks in Middle Township.

Orange and Black Athletes Give Back is being spearheaded by cheerleader Brooke Iacono and football player Terrance Toney.

“The student-athletes would prove that being a panther is more than just putting on a jersey on,” according to literature on the program. “By embracing the concept of giving to others less fortunate, the Middle Township student-athletes would learn how to become involved in life and lives beyond sports and schoolwork. Call it ‘teamwork off the field.’”

Middle Township High School has several sports teams, including football, tennis and cross country.
