Three injured in Middle Township fire

MIDDLE TOWNSHIP – A fire Wednesday night sent three people to the hospital.

Middle Township police received several calls at 10:22 p.m. Jan. 16 of a structure fire on Old Avalon Boulevard. Patrolman Pat Conte noticed heavy smoke coming from the home when he arrived on the scene.

Residents had already exited the home, according to police.

The Cape May Court House Volunteer Fire Co. quickly extinguished the fire. Police Capt. John Edwards could not say the amount of damage caused to the building.

Three adults were transported to Cape Regional Medical Center in Cape May Court House for treatment of their injuries, which ranged from minor burns to smoke inhalation, according to police.

Assisting the Cape May Court House Volunteer Fire Co. were the Avalon Volunteer Fire Department, Stone Harbor Volunteer Fire Co., the Rio Grande Fire Co. and Middle Township EMS.

The Middle Township Police Department and the Cape May County Fire Marshal’s Office are investigating the fire.
