Public Works director faces charges

CAPE MAY COURT HOUSE – Middle Township’s Public Works Director Andrew Smith has been arrested after allegedly stealing a black flatbed landscape trailer from the municipality.

Middle Township Police charged Smith, 42, of Cape May Court House, with official misconduct, a second-degree crime and theft, a third-degree crime.

On Feb. 7, police say they received information about a possible theft of township property, and the Middle Township Police Department Major Crimes Unit initiated an investigation.

Smith was placed in the Cape May County jail on $20,000 bail, set by Judge Richard Russell.
