CAPE MAY COURT HOUSE – The Lower Township man accused of hitting and killing two teenaged girls with his vehicle in Middle Township in July will likely face trial, says Cape May County First Assistant Prosecutor Robert Johnson.

Joshua Malmgren, 31, of Villas, faces two counts of first-degree aggravated manslaughter. He appeared for a status conference Feb. 14 at the Cape May County Courthouse.

He was allegedly drunk when his car hit Nioami Lazicki, 15, of Middle Township, and her cousin Ashley Dauber, 13, of Philadelphia, as they were walking at night along the shoulder of Bay Shore Road in Green Creek on July 31. Another teenaged girl walking with them was not injured.

During a status conference Feb. 14 at the Cape May County Courthouse, a pre-trial conference was set for 9 a.m. March 21. That’s where a trial date could be scheduled, Johnson said.

Many people turned out for Malmgren’s short court appearance Thursday morning.
