MIDDLE TOWNSHIP – A group forming in Cape May County seeks to prepare for the next natural disaster like Hurricane Sandy.
The team also supports Sandy recovery operations.
The long-term recovery group will meet at 10 a.m. Friday at Atlantic Cape Community College’s Cape May County Campus.
“These groups, and the people and organizations involved, will serve an important purpose as we look to the long term for helping those in need,” reads an announcement from Cape May County. “LTRGs will help with providing resources to victims, disaster case management, donations and any other support network that victims may need for the long term.”
Long-term recovery groups are organized under the Federal Emergency Management Agency and include governments, private non-profit organizations and faith-based groups.
The long-term recovery group has adopted a set of bylaws and members will be formally voted in and officers picked on Friday. The campus is at 341 Court House-South Dennis Road, Cape May Court House.
“In coordination and support from Voluntary Organizations Active in Disasters, the FEMA and State Voluntary Agency Liaison's, and the Governor's Office of Volunteerism, LTRGs have been established in Cape May County and in many other areas including Atlantic City, Atlantic County, Bergen County, Middlesex County, Monmouth County, Morris County, Ocean County and Somerset County,” said Martin Pagliughi, Cape May County’s emergency management director.
