MIDDLE TOWNSHIP -- People filled out applications in the former Super Fresh store in Cape May Court House Friday for the Big Lots store coming in.
The large building has sat empty since Super Fresh shut its doors in 2011, causing about 80 people to lose their jobs.
On March 15, the building was lined with empty shelves and workers were getting the store ready for opening.
It’s unknown when the store will open or how many employees will be hired. The manager declined to comment, referring questions to the corporate level. No one was immediately available for interview from the corporate headquarters Friday.
Gage Cope, 19, of Rio Grande, said he was applying for a part-time job at the store. He works at Arby's in Cape May Court House, down the street.
He is looking for a job stocking shelves and heard about job openings on the Big Lots website.
Big Lots is looking for cashiers and stockers, according to a job description listed on its website. The store has food, seasonal products, furniture, housewares, toys and gifts and there are hundreds of Big Lots throughout the country.
