Prosecutor looks into death of Ocean City man in Avalon

Cape May County Prosecutor's Office is investigating the death of an Ocean City man found at the water’s edge in Avalon on New Year's Day.

Avalon Police were called at about 7:30 a.m. to the 23rd beach for the report of a body Jan. 1, later identified as  Brett Fitzpatrick of Ocean City.

The Major Crimes Unit of the Cape May County Prosecutor's Office and detectives from the Avalon Police Department conducted a subsequent investigation. Several friends of the victim, who had been with him recently, were interviewed, according to information from the prosecutor's office.

The investigation is ongoing and an autopsy is pending, according to information from the prosecutor's office. 
County Prosecutor Robert Taylor was unavailable for an interview Friday morning.
