UPDATE: One dead in Avalon Boulevard collision

MIDDLE TOWNSHIP — A 51-year-old man is dead after a two car crash on Avalon Boulevard Tuesday.

Middle Township Police responded to the accident at about 4:50 p.m. April 22. According to police, a silver minivan heading east crossed the center line and struck a Green Jeep Wrangler, driven by Addison Jones, 61, of Langhorne, Pa.

Jones was airlifted to Atlantic Care Medical Center City Division.

The driver of the silver minivan, age 51, was pronounced dead at the scene. Police originally withheld his name until his family could be notified. As of Wednesday afternoon, he was identified as Jack Brian Smith of Moscow, Pa. At the same time, police said Jones was listed in critical condition at AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center’s city division.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation, as is the cause of death.

Cape May Court House and Avalon Fire Departments assisted at the scene. Avalon Boulevard was reopened to traffic at about 8 p.m.
