CAPE MAY COURT HOUSE – Work on the Garden State Parkway will lead to several road closures during the coming weeks, when the state Turnpike Authority sets 140-foot beams into place in advance of coming overpasses, a local official said at the Monday, May 19 meeting of the Township Committee.

Committeeman Dan Lockwood met with the authority on Friday, May 16, to discuss several concerns that the committee and area residents have with the project.

As a result of the meeting, the duration traffic signals allowing access to the parkway from Stone Harbor Boulevard will be adjusted. Temporary fencing along the project will also be maintained, and new fencing will be installed by the authority with input from the township and county.

Lockwood also addressed what he called “pinch points on the parkway,” and requested that the authority keep two lanes open at all times.

The setting of the beams, however, will lead to some road closures, said Connie Mahon, township business administrator.
