Child airlifted to hospital after 2nd story fall

AVALON – An 18-month old child fell from a second story window in Avalon, Thursday, June 26, and was taken by helicopter to Cooper Hospital in Camden, officials said in a press release.

Avalon police were called to the 700 block of Sunrise Drive at 5:16 p.m. after a child on the second-floor landing pushed against a screen that gave way.

The child fell from the landing to a concrete surface on the first floor.  The Cape May County Emergency Dispatch Center dispatched both Avalon Police and the Avalon Rescue Squad to the scene.

The child was conscious when he was medivacked to the hospital. 

The victim is from Spring Lake, New Jersey and was with his family at the time of the accident. 

No other details were immediately available, including the child’s gender.
