Avalon postpones fireworks until Sunday, July 6

Patriotic concert will be held as scheduled

AVALON - The borough has postponed its fireworks display from Friday, July 4 to Sunday, July 6 due to inclement weather and rough sea conditions. The fireworks will fired from a barge offshore at the 30th Street beach on Sunday at 9 p.m.

Sunday, from 6-9 p.m., the Department of Recreation will hold its holiday celebration on the 30th Street beach. There will be games, bounce houses, and various activities for kids of all ages. Live music will be provided by the local band “Loud N Klear” from 7-8:30 p.m. in advance of the fireworks display.

Avalon has also postponed its field races.

One of the highlights of the weekend will be held as scheduled Friday, July 4 at 7 p.m. The Bay-Atlantic Symphony will perform a patriotic concert. This year’s Bay-Atlantic Symphony concert is entitled “The Promise of Freedom” and will be held inside Community Hall at 7 p.m. Doors open at 6 p.m.

There are no tickets required for this performance.

The “Promise of Freedom” performance will include: Star Spangled Banner, Outdoor Overture, 4 Dance Episodes, Theme from “Magnificent Seven,” Washington Post March, Stars and Stripes Forever with guest conductor Capt. G. Todd Prestidge, commanding officer, U.S. Coast Guard, Cape May Training Center.

Also on the program is Tchaikovsky's 1812 Overture.

Avalon has also postponed its boat parade. The parade will be held on Saturday, July 5, at 2 p.m.

On Saturday, July 5, Avalon will present a free concert featuring the 63rd Army Band at 7 p.m. The concert will be at Veterans Plaza at 21st Street and Dune Drive.
