Police urge witnesses to contact officials

At about 11 p.m. Sunday, July 20, the Middle Township Police Department was called to Hideaway Beach Condominium in Goshen for a report of an attempted sexual assault.

A 49-year-old woman was assaulted on the beach at the end of Cooks Beach Road. She was grabbed by an unknown man, who ripped her shirt and attempted to remove her shorts. The woman was able to get free and run to the safety of her vehicle.

The suspect is described as a white man, slender, 5-foot-8-inches to 5-foot-10, with shoulder length curly or wavy hair.

Monday evening, Police Capt. John Edwards urged three potential witnesses to contact officials.

"They're not in trouble," Edwards said of the witnesses. "But they may not know that what they saw was more serious than they realize."

The Middle Township Police Department is asking for the public’s help in finding the witnesses.

The witnesses may have been in the area that night and may have seen or heard the attack. The three are described as white men in their early 20s. They were working on a small boat that was on a trailer and attached to a pickup truck or SUV type vehicle.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Middle Township Police Department at 609-465-8700, or the Cape May County Crime Stoppers at 609-465-2800.
