North Wildwood woman charged after 2 pedestrians struck on Route 47, police say

GREEN CREEK – A North Wildwood woman has been charged with leaving the scene of a crash with serious bodily injury after she struck two people on Route 47 at about 1:10 a.m., Sunday, Aug. 24, according to a statement from police.

One of the victims of the accident was thrown in the air, and landed in the back seat of the vehicle, Middle Township police said.

Kristen Schwakoff, 25, kept driving her canvas-topped Kia Sport after striking Ryan Burton, 25, Whitesboro, and Samuel Caraballo, 22, Woodbine, police said in a statement.

Officers responding to the accident said Burton was thrown to the side of the road.

Caraballo, however, landed in the back seat of Schwakoff’s vehicle after being struck, police said.

According to police, a witness followed Schwakoff’s vehicle south on Route 47 after the accident, and then onto Fulling Mill Road. Police said the witness was honking their horn to signal the person to stop.

The vehicle stopped on Fulling Mill road near Cape May County Airport, according to police.

Burton was taken to Cape Regional Medical Center for treatment, and Caraballo was flown to Atlanticare Regional Medical Center for treatment.

Police said the crash is under investigation by the Middle Township Major Crime Unit and Fatal Crash Team.
