Malmgren pleads guilty in death of two teen girls

CAPE MAY COURT HOUSE – Joshua Malmgren pleaded guilty to two counts of first degree aggravated manslaughter on Tuesday, Sept. 2, in connection with the vehicle accident that killed two teenage girls in 2012, according to a statement from Cape May County Prosecutor Robert L. Taylor.

Malmgren, of Lower Township, acknowledged his guilt in the July 31, 2012 car accident that killed two cousins, Nioami Lazicki, 15, of Middle Township, and Ashley Dauber, 13, of Philadelphia, who had been walking along Bayshore Road, Taylor said the statement.

In his plea, Malmgren admitted to driving drunk, with a blood alcohol content of .183, twice the legal limit. Additionally, Malmgren said that he had also combined the alcohol with Tramadol and Clonazepam, as well as texting while driving.

According to Taylor, under a plea agreement, Malmgren will receive two consecutive nine-year terms in state prison for a total of 18 years. Malmgren will be required to serve 85 percent of his sentence without possibility of parole.

Sentencing is set for Friday, Dec. 5.
