Middle Township after lower energy rate

MIDDLE TOWNSHIP — In the coming weeks, the township will try to help residents save money on their energy bills.

The move is part of an energy auction that is expected to result in significant savings for residential property owners on the “supply” portion of their energy bills. Commercial Utility Consultants will hold the auction.

Local Lions Club golf classic raises $22,000 for Diller Home

 Local Lions Club golf classic raises $22,000 for Diller Home AVALON — The Avalon Lions Charities Foundation raised more than $22,000 for the Helen L. Diller Vacation Home for the Blind Children in Avalon.

The fundraiser set records for the amount of money raised, number of sponsors and golfers. This was the fifth consecutive year for the Charity Golf Classic fundraiser, held June 9 at the Avalon Golf Club.

105th birthday for Crest Haven resident

 Mary Agnes Antler turns 105 on July 28.  Her milestone was celebrated on July 15 at the Crest Haven Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Antler was born July 28, 1908, in Philadelphia and was raised in an orphanage. She was emancipated at the age of 16 and began working at a hosiery factory in Philadelphia.

Tax bills to be mailed out

 MIDDLE TOWNSHIP — Middle Township will send out its 2013-14 tax bills during the third week of July.

The bills will reflect results of the recent property reassessment in Middle Township and a tax levy that is lower than in 2011.

Zoning meeting canceled

MIDDLE TOWNSHIP — The Middle Township Zoning Board will not hold its regularly scheduled meeting July 11. Meetings take place at Township Hall, 33 Mechanic St. in Cape May Court House.

 

Woodbine recognized for bicycle and pedestrian safety

WOODBINE — A statewide coalition of organizations has recognized Woodbine for its commitment to bicycle and pedestrian safety.

The railroad trail is on the right-of-way of a former Pennsylvania and Reading railroad line.

Pens provide allergy relief

AVALON — The Avalon Rescue Squad has become the first rescue squad in Cape May County to carry epinephrine auto-injector “pens” that provide immediate relief to someone who has a severe allergic reaction.

Previously, personnel would have to wait for the arrival of advanced life support services to apply the treatment.

Woodbine receives $2,719 recycling rebate

 MIDDLE TOWNSHIP — The borough will receive a 2012 recycling rebate in the amount of $2,719 from the Cape May County Municipal Utilities Authority.

Rebates are apportioned to municipalities based upon the tons of recyclables delivered to the CMCMUA’s Intermediate Processing Facility for processing during 2012. The recycling rebates are in addition to the savings represented by avoiding the landfill tip fee for every ton recycled.

The Wetlands Institute gets grant

MIDDLE TOWNSHIP — A $750 grant helped The Wetlands Institute’s staff and volunteers re-install road-side barrier fencing that prevents turtles from crossing the road.

“It was important to re-install this fencing in time for the diamondback terrapin nesting season in order to help prevent female terrapins from crossing busy Stone Harbor Boulevard,” reads an announcement. “Through a series of three fence installation days and with the help of 55 volunteers, The Wetlands Institute installed a total of 7,558 feet of barrier fencing along Stone Harbor Boulevard this spring.”

Pet Tech is the first international training center dedicated to pet first aid, CPR and care.
