WOODBINE – The borough recently received an environmental stewardship certificate from the state Department of Environmental Protection.
“This is in recognition of the borough’s voluntary and proactive measures to go beyond compliance in an effort to improve the environment and ensure a sustainable future,” reads an announcement from the borough. “The participation category was Green Building Implementation.”
This relates to the incorporation of energy conservation measures in municipal buildings and facilities as a result of the borough’s partnership with the Board of Public Utilities Clean Energy Program.
“We applaud NJDEP’s proactive stance with regards to stewardship and appreciate their recognition of Woodbine’s efforts. In addition to creating cost savings, this also maintains a sustainable environment for its residents and businesses,” Mayor William Pikolycky said in a press release. “This builds upon our 2009 award as a sustainable champion community, New Jersey’s first rural champion.”
