 Local Lions Club golf classic raises $22,000 for Diller Home AVALON — The Avalon Lions Charities Foundation raised more than $22,000 for the Helen L. Diller Vacation Home for the Blind Children in Avalon.

The fundraiser set records for the amount of money raised, number of sponsors and golfers. This was the fifth consecutive year for the Charity Golf Classic fundraiser, held June 9 at the Avalon Golf Club.

More than 100 local business and individuals contributed to the event.

The Diller Home provides one-week, all-expense-paid vacations for the blind and visually impaired from the ages of 7 to 15. The cost to provide this vacation is $1,500 per child.

The fundraiser featured one of the largest Chinese, silent and live auctions in the area as well as many prizes and goody bags for the golfers.

Next year’s golf classic with be held June 22 at the Avalon Golf Club.
