Mental health first aid classes

Mental health first aid classes are being offered to residents of Atlantic County. Based on national curriculum taught across the country, the topics include education about mental illness and addictions, tips for talking to people in crisis, identification of risk factors and warning signs, and resources for interventions and recovery.

The free classes are provided through the Mental Health Association in Atlantic County through a grant. The two-part series will be offered 1-5 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 10 and 17 at the Quail Hill Community Center in Galloway.

Doctor praises Toys for Tots program

Dr. Frank Kern and his staff thanked patients and members of the Brigantine Democratic Club for their support in collecting toys and checks for the 2014 Toys for Tots campaign. Here, program coordinator Ron Powell, retired from the U.S. Marine Corps, joins Councilman Joe Picardi and Councilman Tony Pullella. The office donation box was filled to the brim three times, making this year’s collection the best yet.

Brigantine CER is sponsoring a Broadway show trip to ‘Honeymoon in Vegas’ Wednesday, April 22, in New York City.

“Honeymoon in Vegas” tells the story of Jack Singer, a regular guy with an extraordinary fear of marriage who finally gets up the nerve to ask his girlfriend Betsy to marry him. But when they head to Las Vegas to get hitched, smooth-talking gambler Tommy Karman, looking for a second chance of love, falls head over heels for Betsy. What happens next is anybody’s bet.

St. Thomas Christmas Mass Schedule

Here is St. Thomas’ Christmas Mass schedule: 4 p.m. (Children’s Liturgy), 6 p.m., 10 p.m., There is no midnight mass.

There are services at 9:30 a.m. Christmas Day, Dec. 25; 4 p.m. New Year’s Eve, Dec. 31 and 8:30 a.m., New Year’s Day.

Thanks for supporting Zumba for Deana Thanks for supporting Zumba for Deana Once again, Brigantine has shown what a great community we live in. The Zumba event for Deana Donofrio Saturday was a huge success. It was amazing the amount of people who came out to support our friend who has been having many medical issues in the past two months. She is on the mend but has a long road ahead of her.

Flood insurance battle: one resident’s experience

Last week the Beachcomber News ran an article detailing issues that the Federal Emergency Management Agency was addressing with flood insurance policy issuers.  We asked if any local residents had experienced these issues. 

Longtime Brigantine resident Michael Tourigian stepped forward and is sharing his family’s story with the hope that others may benefit from his battle which is on-going.

The Brigantine CER recently offered a unique experience for the people of Brigantine. 

On Wednesday, Dec. 10, Community Education and Recreation sponsored a trip to see the Philly Pops in concert at the Kimmel Center in Philadelphia.
