Today I am announcing my retirement as Chief of the Brigantine Police Department effective April 19, 2013. I would first like to say it has been an honor and privilege to serve the residents and visitors of the City of Brigantine for the last 25 years.

Brigantine Police Blotter - Assault, DWI charges

All persons listed are considered innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.

For the week ending April 10, the Brigantine Police Department responded to approximately 280 calls for service, including 57 motor vehicle stops (with 27 summonses issued and one DWI arrest) eight domestic disputes, and four motor vehicle accidents.

Spirit freshman eight wins at Lenape

Holy Spirit’s freshman eight rowers are Brigantine residents Nicole Mayer, (coxswain), Kylie Magee, (stroke), Kali Raganatto (6), and Erin Welsh (7), Richie Atkinson (5), Sara Miller (4), Nicole Wenzel (3), Olivia Torres (2) and Tarryn Slattery (bow). Holy Spirit’s freshman eight rowers are Brigantine residents Nicole Mayer, (coxswain), Kylie Magee, (stroke), Kali Raganatto (6), and Erin Welsh (7), Richie Atkinson (5), Sara Miller (4), Nicole Wenzel (3), Olivia Torres (2) and Tarryn Slattery (bow).

The Holy Spirit Freshman Eight were gold medalists at the Lake Lenape races Saturday, March 30, and were back to practice Tuesday, April 2 in preparation of the Manny Flick races Saturday, April 6 in Pennsylvania. The team is coached by John McCann and Tim Welsh.

Yes, the Phillies lost to the Atlanta Braves (9-2) at Turner Field Thursday night. That was the second game of this 2013 season. And, in my opinion, Halladay was the main contributor of this loss, while he was going for his 200th win of his career. Of course, Ryan Howard did nothing at the plate and Chase Utley surprised me with his strikeouts, but he did have a two-run double in the seventh inning.

The 2013 budget process has been confusing and alarming for taxpayers, council members, and city employees. We have been told since the first budget presentation in February that we needed to pass on to Brigantine taxpayers the maximum tax increase allowable by law of 6.2 cents.

For the week ending April 3, 2013, the Brigantine Police Department responded to approximately 268 calls for service, including 40 motor vehicle stops/incidents, two accidents (with 10 summonses issued) and five domestic disputes. Police also assisted on nine ambulance calls and six fire-related calls.

To the editor:

As a very concerned parent, I would like to thank Mayor Guenther on behalf of my children for recently supporting the current Brigantine School 2013 budget. I was equally disappointed that it was not a unanimous vote by the entire School Board of Estimate.
