ATLANTIC CITY - McCormick & Schmick’s Seafood Restaurants wishes to thank U.S. military veterans by offering those who have served our country a complimentary lunch or dinner entrée Sunday, Nov. 9 in recognition of Veterans Day. McCormick & Schmick’s will treat veterans for the 15th consecutive year to a special menu at participating locations across the country.

Fall Farmers Market

The Fall Farmers Market will begin 8 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 18 at 15th Street and Revere Avenue. All of the 2014 vendors will be invited to attend.

Make cat and pumpkin window decorations

The Brigantine branch of the Atlantic County Library System invites children ages 3 to 12 to make cat and pumpkin window decorations 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 18. Registration is required. For information call 609-266-0110.

Philadelphia Flyers to DO AC with open practice at Boardwalk Hall Nov. 9

For the first time since 1982, the Philadelphia Flyers full team will be making a stop in Atlantic City to hold an open practice for fans at noon Sunday, Nov. 9 at Boardwalk Hall. The Flyers open practice is sponsored by Tropicana Casino & Resort Atlantic City.

Admission is free, but a ticket is required. Information about obtaining free tickets will be available in the near future.

Brigantine Chamber sponsoring scarecrow contest as part of Halloween Harvest Weekend

BRIGANTINE – The Brigantine Chamber of Commerce will hold a Scarecrow Contest Saturday, Oct. 25 in front of City Hall as part of the city’s Halloween Harvest Festival Weekend.

Entry is free. Participants must preregister by filling out and entry form that can be found in local newspapers and either dropping the form off at the city manager’s office at City Hall or mailing it to the Brigantine Chamber of Commerce, PO Box 484, Brigantine, NJ 08203.

The Absecon Lighthouse is hosting its annual signature special event, Luscious Libations from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 23 at the Chart House, Golden Nugget. Enjoy specialty appetizers while sampling whiskies and rums hand selected by Allied Beverage.  Plus, each guest will receive their very own Absecon Lighthouse logoed rocks glass to use during the tasting and take home.   Toast the lighting of Absecon Lighthouse at 6:08 p.m. Guests will enjoy live music by Shawn Ashley and a silent auction featuring unique and exquisite items.  Cash bar available.

Blessing of Animals

Saturday, Oct. 4 is the feast of St. Francis of Assisi and the annual blessing of animals is 10 a.m. in the church parking lot on Eighth St. Pets of all kinds, cats, dogs, fish, birds, reptiles and rodents (in cages please) are welcome, whether Catholic or not.

Youth Group bake sale

The Youth Group is holding a bake sale after all weekend masses on October 4 and 5.  Please buy some goodies and help support the activities of our young people.

Trip to Brandywine River Museum

The Brigantine Cultural Arts Commission sponsors a bus trip to the Brandywine River Museum in historic Chadds Ford, Pa.  on Tuesday, Oct. 21.

A guided tour will escort visitors through the museum to view the works of N.C., Andrew and Jamie Wyeth. The cost is $40 per person and includes admission, transportation and tour. Lunch will be on your own. There is a restaurant on the premises. Call 609-266-3808 or 609-266-2545.

The Superstorm Sandy information sharing sessions are moving to Wednesdays starting on Feb. 26. Many of us are still in the painfully slow process of recovering from the storm. It helps to share the information we learned along the way and at the same time get an update on the latest recovery programs.
