mmsc mmsc BRIGANTINE - The private, nonprofit Marine Mammal Stranding Center is the only organization in the State of New Jersey authorized to rescue and rehabilitate stranded marine mammals and sea turtles. Since its founding in 1978, it has cared for more than 4,000 animals, including whales, dolphins, seals and sea turtles. The center’s work has been supported by donations, grants, memberships and the museum gift shop to raise funds. However with no permanent funding in place, donations are needed now more than ever to keep this vital service available.

In an effort to continue the work that they do, the center has stepped up fundraising events to raise needed resources. One of the larger fundraising efforts to benefit the center will be held Sunday, Oct. 5: the MMSC’s third annual “Dancing with Dolphins” event.

BrigStrong BrigStrong

The Superstorm Sandy information sharing sessions are moving to Wednesdays starting on Feb. 26. Many of us are still in the painfully slow process of recovering from the storm. It helps to share the information we learned along the way and at the same time get an update on the latest recovery programs.

The previous program was part of a grant that was headed up by New Jersey Hope and Healing. The new weekly program runs from 6:30 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the Brigantine Beach Community Center and consists of a Sandy update by a Brig Strong representative and then an information sharing session, where one can find useful suggestions for coping with and solving Sandy-related issues. The sessions are free and open to adults. Light refreshments are served. Come out and join your neighbors: “You don’t have to go it alone.”
