Got plaid?  Do you have an about an outstandingly ugly holiday sweater?  Well, it is appreciated at the Absecon Lighthouse.  Light up the holidays 5-8 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 6. and celebrate the season, wearing holiday plaids and ugly holiday sweaters. Rock around the tree along with DJ tunes - dance and sing to carols of the season, get some holiday shopping done in the gift shop, sip some holiday cheer of wine and beer, and enjoy light refreshments from award-winning restaurant Tony Boloney's.

Bus trip to Philly Pops concert

Brigantine Community Education and Recreation is offering a bus trip to the Kimmel Center in Philadelphia to see the Philly Pops Christmas Show Wednesday, Dec. 10. The Philly Pops will be conducted by celebrated conductor David Charles Abell.

The bus will leave 4 p.m. from the Community Center for the 8 p.m. show., and depart Philadelphia for the return trip immediately after the show. Before the show dine at the exclusive Acorn Club in Philadelphia, which is celebrating its 125th year.

Tuesday evening, Nov. 25, marks the date of this year’s Thanksgiving Season Interfaith Service. This traditional service will take place at 7p.m. at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, 331 8th Street S., and will be hosted by Rev. William S. Vandergrift, pastor, and his congregation.

All of God’s children, no matter what their denomination, whether they are affiliated or not, may come and offer prayers for peace on earth, good will to man.

Lighthouse Players to perform Neil Simon’s ‘Rumors’

Last summer marked the first production of the new community theater in Brigantine, the BB Lighthouse Players. "Night Watch," by Louise Fletcher, directed by Anthony Vraim and Chikita Wallace, was put on in the gymnasium at the Community Center. The people of Brigantine showed up in record numbers to see this play, which got good reviews.

The Lighthouse Players learned from their first time out that the gym is not the best place to put on a play, due to the noisy air conditioners and the huge space they had to fight for the actors to be heard.

The 4th Ward residents association will meet 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 15 at the Brigantine Community Center on 42nd Street. A program presented by the Brigantine Insurance Company will bring residents up to date on various types of insurance coverage including flood insurance. All residents of the 4th Ward are welcome to attend. This will be the last meeting till spring. 

Catholic Daughters casino trip

The Catholic Daughters of Brigantine will sponsor a bus trip to see “Jingle All the Way” Monday, Nov. 17 at the Tropicana Casino & Resort in Atlantic City. Bus departs 12:15 p.m.., and show time is 3:30 p.m. The bus will leave Tropicana 7 p.m. Tickets are $20 and include $15 slot credits. Call 609-266-8345 or 609-992-8593.

Veterans cards

All are welcome to stop in to make thank you cards for veterans during library hours Monday through Saturday, Nov. 3-8. (The library is closed on Election Day, Tuesday, Nov. 4.) A card-making station is set up in the upstairs foyer. The cards will be presented to local veterans in time for Veterans Day. For information call 266-0110.

Turkey Tissue Paper Craft

The Brigantine branch of the Atlantic County Library will present a turkey tissue paper craft 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 8 for children ages 3-12. Registration is required. For more information call 609-266-0110.

Veteran’s Day Parade

The Brigantine Veteran’s Day Parade will be at 10a.m. Sunday, Nov. 9. The parade begins at 26th St. and runs to the Veteran’s Memorial.

The Brigantine Sons of Italy and Pat Campitelli Lodge 2520 will present the annual rigatoni dinner 5-8p.m. Saturday Nov. 1 at the Elks Lodge, 400 W. Shore Drive. All you can eat dinner includes antipasto salad, pasta, meatballs, sausages, beverages and ice cream. Ticket are $15 at the door, $4 for children under 10. Takeout will be available. St. Thomas was forced to cancel its beach bonfire due to predicted 30 mph high winds. The fire department would not permit the church to light the fire this year. Apologies to all those who were disappointed.

The Atlantic County Library System is accepting nonperishable food items for the Community Food Bank of New Jersey - Southern Branch and local food pantries. Any unopened, unexpired nonperishable food is appreciated, but the most needed items include meals in a can, canned tuna, peanut butter, canned fruits, canned vegetables, canned soup, shelf-stable milk, and cereal.

The Brigantine Schools PTA will hold a bake sale 2-6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 25 at 15th Street South, after the annual Halloween parade. Homemade goodies such as cakes, cupcakes, pies, caramel apples and more will be available for purchase. Proceeds benefit the children of Brigantine schools.

Blessing of Animals

Saturday, Oct. 4 is the feast of St. Francis of Assisi and the annual blessing of animals is 10 a.m. in the church parking lot on Eighth St. Pets of all kinds, cats, dogs, fish, birds, reptiles and rodents (in cages please) are welcome, whether Catholic or not.

Youth Group bake sale

The Youth Group is holding a bake sale after all weekend masses on October 4 and 5.  Please buy some goodies and help support the activities of our young people.

Trip to Brandywine River Museum

The Brigantine Cultural Arts Commission sponsors a bus trip to the Brandywine River Museum in historic Chadds Ford, Pa.  on Tuesday, Oct. 21.

A guided tour will escort visitors through the museum to view the works of N.C., Andrew and Jamie Wyeth. The cost is $40 per person and includes admission, transportation and tour. Lunch will be on your own. There is a restaurant on the premises. Call 609-266-3808 or 609-266-2545.
