A free personal protection and safety seminar will be offered 3-4:15 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 29 at the Brigantine Community Center gymnasium. It will be conducted by Sensei Bob McCann, a sixth-degree black belt and owner of Olympic Center Karate in Ocean City, who has conducted seminars for corporations, Gilda’s Club of South Jersey and several real estate organizations, according to organizers. The seminar will teach ways to become more aware of your environment and specific ways to protect and defend yourself. The free seminar is sponsored by the Brigantine office of Berkshire Hathaway Homeservices Fox and Roach. Call 609-264-8444.

Greenhead Sprints in March

BRIGANTINE - Those who work out on a rowing machine are invited to test their endurance by competing in the Greenhead Sprints Indoor Rowing Regatta on Saturday, March 7 in Brigantine.

Athletes will row 2,000 meters on Concept II rowing machines, competing against others in the same age, sex and weight categories.

The BB Lighthouse Players have started rehearsing for their latest production, “Rumors,” a sophisticated comedy by Neil Simon. 

A great cast of talented actors is gearing up for a wonderful production, which will be staged at the Community Presbyterian Church, 1501 W. Brigantine Ave.

The Cloisters will hold their next owners meeting 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 17 in the Community Room. Organizers look forward to seeing all owners who are able to attend.

The BB Lighthouse Players have held auditions for our new play "Rumors" by Neil Simon, to be presented Feb. 27 and 28 and March 1, 6, 7 and 8 at the Brigantine Community Presbyterian Church. The Friday and Saturday night performances start 8 p.m., and the Sunday matinees begin 2 p.m.

Brigantine CER is sponsoring a Broadway show trip to ‘Honeymoon in Vegas’ Wednesday, April 22, in New York City.

“Honeymoon in Vegas” tells the story of Jack Singer, a regular guy with an extraordinary fear of marriage who finally gets up the nerve to ask his girlfriend Betsy to marry him. But when they head to Las Vegas to get hitched, smooth-talking gambler Tommy Karman, looking for a second chance of love, falls head over heels for Betsy. What happens next is anybody’s bet.

The Brigantine Community Education and Recreation Department is sponsoring an Alaska Northern Glacier Cruise on the Celebrity Millennium Aug. 14-24. The trip will include a three-day land package to Denali, Anchorage, Talkeetna and Seward.

It will depart from Philadelphia airport and arrive in Vancouver, where the group will board. A special rate is being offered to the first 22 people who sign up.

ATLANTIC CITY – After 30 years of touring the state with the beloved holiday classic, the Atlantic City Ballet announced that it will perform “The Nutcracker” Dec. 18-23 in Atlantic City.

The ballet will be presented with live accompaniment by the Garden State Philharmonic at the Claridge Hotel Celebrity Theater, Park Place and the Boardwalk.

She specializes in large complicated projects such as the Tropicana Quarter Painted Sky Scapes, and also paints for clients in private homes. Every mural is an authentic piece of artwork, not digitally created. Her work is most prominent in Atlantic City and Charleston, S.C.

BRIGANTINE - The Atlantic County Library System is accepting nonperishable food items for the Community Food Bank of New Jersey - Southern Branch and local food pantries. Any unopened, unexpired nonperishable food is appreciated, but the most needed items include meals in a can, canned tuna, peanut butter, canned fruits, canned vegetables, canned soup, shelf-stable milk, and cereal.

The Brigantine Schools PTA will hold a bake sale 2-6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 25 at 15th Street South, after the annual Halloween parade. Homemade goodies such as cakes, cupcakes, pies, caramel apples and more will be available for purchase. Proceeds benefit the children of Brigantine schools.

The Brigantine Cultural Arts Commission sponsors a bus trip to the Brandywine River Museum in historic Chadds Ford, Pa.  on Tuesday, Oct. 21.

A guided tour will escort visitors through the museum to view the works of N.C., Andrew and Jamie Wyeth. The cost is $40 per person and includes admission, transportation and tour. Lunch will be on your own. There is a restaurant on the premises. Call 609-266-3808 or 609-266-2545.
