Absecon Lighthouse, New Jersey’s tallest, will host a birthday celebration to honor the 156th birthday of the Lighthouse on Sunday through Tuesday, Jan. 13-15.

Kids can climb the lighthouse free from 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 13. The winners of a lighthouse-inspired contest will be announced at 1 p.m., with cash prizes for Atlantic City students who have submitted their poems, paintings, photographs, and drawings.

The celebration continues Monday with ‘buy one, get one free’ admissions all day. On Tuesday, Jan. 15, the lighthouse’s actual birthday, there are free climbs for all visitors and birthday cake from The Bake Works in Northfield.

Don’t miss this opportunity to experience a 360-degree view of Atlantic City’s sparkling skyline, and wish a happy birthday to Atlantic City’s oldest historic structure, as well as the country’s third-tallest lighthouse.

Absecon Lighthouse is a state-owned historic property administered by the nonprofit Inlet Public/Private Association. Located at 31 S. Rhode Island Avenue in Atlantic City, it is open to visitors 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursdays through Mondays.

Absecon Lighthouse received a general operating support grant from the New Jersey Historical Commission and a stabilization grant from the New Jersey Cultural Trust, both divisions of Cultural Affairs in the Department of State.
