ATLANTIC CITY –The AHL’s Albany Devils will celebrate hockey history at Boardwalk Hall on Friday, Feb. 14 when they take on the Hershey Bears. The first puck drops at 7 p.m. inside the Art Dorrington Ice Rink.

The celebration will begin upon entering the building. The first 2,000 fans who arrive to the game will receive a commemorative poster of the 2003 ECHL Boardwalk Bullies Kelly Cup Championship team. Additionally, former Boardwalk Bullies captain Stefan Rivard and his former teammate Ian Walterson will be signing autographs at the game during the second period intermission.

Mike Haviland, current head coach of the Hershey Bears, was the coach of the 2003 Boardwalk Bullies Kelly Cup Championship team. Haviland has recently reteamed with Ryan Mougenel who played for the Bullies in 2002-2003. Mougenel is now assistant coach of the Hershey Bears.

The Albany Devils are writing their own history inside the walls of Atlantic City’s Boardwalk Hall as it has recently become the team’s home away from home. The Albany Devils first took the ice at the venue for four games in the 2010-2011 season and returned to the venue for another four-game series in the 2012-2013 season as well as the current 2013-2014 season.  Prior to the Albany Devils bringing pro hockey back to the hall, the building was home to the ECHL’s Atlantic City Boardwalk Bullies from 2001-2005. In 2003, the Bullies emerged victorious over the Columbia Inferno to win their first ever Kelly Cup.

The beginning of hockey at Boardwalk Hall dates back to Dec. 28, 1929 when Ottawa faced off against the New York Rangers. The following year saw the debut of the first of Boardwalk Hall’s two home hockey teams, the Atlantic City Seagulls, who played until 1952. Boardwalk Hall has also hosted the ECAC Men’s Hockey Championship from 2011-2013 as well as the 2012 AHL All-Star Classic and Operation Hat Trick, a charity exhibition hockey game for victims of Superstorm Sandy in 2012.
