“Fishing could not be better for us,” said Capt. Joe Fumo of the Fish Finder II. “Action has been hot, red hot. Keepers in the double digits, with well over 100 fish being released each trip. Some trips are better than others with over 200 fish released per trip.

“The Progressive Fluke Jackpot was hit on Friday and paid out $900 for a $2 ticket and a fish that weighed in at 2.16 pounds! Charlie and Walter are pictured with the cash and the winner fluke! Nice job, guys. The Progressive Jackpot is already up to $500 for a 2.81-pound flattie. Also, Joey's Fluke Tourney is set for July 23. Look for the entry forms at the Elks, the V, and the Legion. You can also stop down the marina to pick one up. I think the largest flattie will be worth between $500 and $1,000. Spearing is still the bait of choice and the fluke are all over the squid spearing combo.”

“Flounder fishing is red hot in the inlet and bays of Brigantine,” said Cathy Crossland. “Bayside Marina had lots of keepers reported over the holiday weekend with the largest fish at 5.8 pounds out of the inlet at the top of the tide. Water temps hovering in the 68-71 degree range have showed to produce lots of fish with an average keeper-throwback ratio of 1:7. One-ounce buck tails tipped with Gulp, hand-cut Bayside squid strips or mackeral have proven best. Bottom rigs were still very productive with a lot of fish being caught using the always effective minnow-squid combination or 2- to 3-inch live Spot (we have plenty in stock).

“Surf fishing on the jetties and beachfront are still producing kingfish on bloodworms, bluefish, and triggerfish. Offshore fishing at the Cigar and Wilmington are still producing yellowfin tuna. Jeff of Bayside Marina had mahi-mahi at the 28-mile wreck Tuesday.

“On Saturday, Pete Bradley caught and released a rare hatchet marlin at Spencer on a pink-skirted Bayside bionic ballyhoo. Summer fishing is in full swing. Have a great week.”

That’s all for this week. So get out there and fish, and don’t forget to listen for that screamin’ reel!
