Local artist Jacqueline Boyd is hosting an exhibition at her gallery with an opening reception on Saturday, July 7. The exhibition will feature work by Boyd, Rae Smith and Renee Weiss Chase.

Rae Smith is a master pastelist whose inspiration for her paintings is derived from her world. It is the capturing of a special mood or emotion, in her own impressionistic way – of a place, time or figment of her imagination. “Creating art is my passion and I hope I am able to express myself so that the one who views my work is touched," said Smith. Her award-winning pastel and oil paintings have been exhibited throughout the United States as well as Japan, China, France, Italy, Russia, Taiwan and Canada. She has been published in the International Artist Magazine, Fine Art Magazine, Pastel Journal and Best of Pastel II.

Renee Weiss Chase is a fashion designer and her medium is clay. She uses the vocabulary from fashion design to create her clay forms. Each piece is infused with style and motion. The imaginary body and stance are as important to the piece as is the design of the “garment.” She has found through her exploration of clay that, regardless of the medium, there is a synchronicity in approach to design. The garment’s relationship to the body, the evolution of a proportion that enhances the body and line as it defines an elongated form have emerged as constants whether working with cloth or clay.

Jacqueline Boyd, a Brigantine resident and owner of the gallery, is an award winning painter. Her oil and acrylic paintings range in style, from painterly realism to abstractions. Her work will include her new paintings ranging from vibrant colored abstracts to the dissolving edges of dreamlike interiors that blur the lines between representation and non-representation.

The artists may be met at an opening reception at the studio located at 1012 West Brigantine Avenue on Saturday from 6-9 p.m. The exhibition will continue until Sunday, July 15. For more information, call (609) 266-6080.
