Sandy’s recent passing created a greater sense of community by island residents, and both year-round and summer residents have been coming together to volunteer and give donations.
In this spirit of community giving, resident Margie Goodman initiated a campaign to stage a free Thanksgiving dinner for all Brigantine residents, and she has been supported through a social network of friends and residents.
The dinner will be held 1-4 p.m. Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, Nov. 22 at the Brigantine Beach Community Center, 265 42nd St. Take-out will be available.
Though the dinner is complimentary, donations to the True Spirit Coalition are requested. The money will be used to assist families affected by Hurricane Sandy.
Food for the dinner is a donation by Jill Parker and family, as well as Goodfellows Restaurant in Absecon. Students from Atlantic County Institute of Technology will cook the turkeys. The menu is being developed by Adrienne Sharp.
Reservations are required by 4 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 20 so volunteers will know how much food to prepare. Call (609) 289-9134.
Those who require transportation should call the BBCC at (609) 264-7350 by Tuesday, Nov. 20. The Senior Shuttle will be available 1-5 p.m.
Anyone who would like to volunteer to cook, serve or clean up should call Margie Goodman at (609) 289-9134 or email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .
