BrigStrong BrigStrong

BrigStrong is Brigantine’s Long Term Recovery Group (LTRG) which is an extension of the island’s True Spirit Coalition. It is composed of local volunteers helping people who are suffering the effects of Superstorm Sandy. This column will give updates to efforts and resources available.

Hope and Healing After Sandy

An interactive presentation of coping and recovery, hope and support after Superstorm Sandy’s storms and flooding, is scheduled from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, March 9 at the Brigantine Beach Community Center

No one who lives through a disaster is untouched by the experience, and not everyone reacts the same way. Get useful suggestions and techniques for managing the stress and anxiety, and learn about managing the emotional consequences of the storm.

A presentation by New Jersey Hope and Healing will be followed by a group discussion. Local and county resources will be shared. Call (609) 652-3800, ext. 308.

Blankets for Brigantine and Beyond

Two women have established a storefront in Brigantine at the former Reynolds store to provide essential items for those who lost so much during the storm.

With the motto “Shore We Can Help,” Linda Nese of Blackwood and Jo Ann Flem-Tiedeken of Washington Township are helping out in any way they can.

The storefront is open 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. every Saturday. Currently they have supplies of heavy winter clothing, boots, cleaning products and tools, and will soon have a supply of building supplies.

Those wishing assistance must bring in their FEMA number, photo identification and proof of residence.

Blankets for Brigantine is working with BrigStrong to identify families in need and coordinating efforts. They are posting daily on Facebook with their current supplies.
