Brigantine gears up for 4x4 parade, beach bonfire

Brigantine 4x4 Parade on the beach Brigantine 4x4 Parade on the beach  BRIGANTINE - After a seemingly endless winter, the island is highly anticipating summertime and the many events the island has to offer. To kick off the season, the City of Brigantine Beach and the Brigantine Chamber of Commerce are hosting the third annual 4x4 Parade and Bonfire 2-8 p.m. Saturday, May 17 with the theme ‘Pirate’s Parade.’

The parade route will start at 38th Street and finish at 10th Street South. Registration is 10 a.m.-1 p.m. the day of the parade and costs $10, or $5 if paid in advance. You need JavaScript enabled to view it . Registration forms can be submitted to the CER at the Community Center on 42nd Street.

The parade is for 4x4 vehicles only (no all-wheel-drive), but a 4x4 permit is not required for this special event. The parade will begin at 2 p.m. after all have been registered.

Vehicles will drive down the beach to be judged at a stand according to their themed decorations. Vehicles will be stopped in front of the judges for a few moments to be critiqued and then continue on through the parade route. Prizes will be awarded to “best dressed vehicles.”

All winners will be announced at the bonfire party, held around sundown – about 8 p.m. – at the 17th Street beach pavilion. Gulliver the Seagull and Briggy the Fox will usher in the festivities, and the Police and Fire Departments will be around to provide security, keeping this event safe and fun.
